A very long walk for Olympic gold. Australian athlete Jared Tallent finally getting what his been fighting for, recognition that he was the real winner at the London Games four years ago and not Russian drug cheat Sergey Kirdyapkin. The IOC on Friday declaring Tallent the winner of the 50 kilometer race walk event.
>> Presenting an Olympic medal is always an honor, but more so on this occasion to be part of rectifying, in some way, the massive injustice perpetrated on Jared by a doping cheat, and aided by a Russian anti-doping agency and Russian Athletics Federation that were rotten to the core.
>> Tallent's been campaigning for years to have Russia's race walking team investigated, and their medals re-awarded to clean competitors.>> I just can't believe this day has finally, finally happened. Unfortunately, I didn't get to stand on the podium in London all those days ago. But coming here to Melbourne, so close to home, only a hundred kilometers from where I grew up on a potato farm, this has just made it absolutely special.
>> Tallent's quest for justice isn't over yet. His now campaigning for Russia's track and field team to be banned from the Rio Olympics this year, saying the games will be tarnished forever if they are allowed to compete.>> Olympic champion
