>> Islamic State releasing this footage.
purports to show the militant group blowing up a 3,000 year old Assyrian Temple in Northern Iraq. It's the latest attack by IS on some of the worlds greatest archeological and cultural treasures. The UN has confirmed that satellite imagery shows extensive damage to the main entrance to the Temple of Nabu, the Babylonian God of Wisdom.
The group considers all pre-Islamic culture idolatrous. In late March, the Syrian and Russian military retook control of the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra. The militants caused extensive damage there to the 2,000 year old ruins. This recent destruction, just one more step in their attempt to erase history and spread their radical interpretation of Sunni Islam.
