>> An abject act of terror, that's how French authorities are describing a brutal murder near Paris on Monday night, a suspected Islamic fighter stabbing a police officer to death, before taking his partner and three year old son hostage. Police shot the attacker dead, but not before he also killed the woman.
Reuters Ingrid Melander says the attacker had been on the police's radar.>> He's a 25 year old man whom police forces say is called Larossi Abballa. He's a French nationality of Moroccan origin. He was was being monitored by intelligence services. In 2013, he was condemned for taking part in a network that was sending people to Pakistan, some Islamist militants.
And he was also condemned three times for theft to aggravated theft and driving without license.>> Police are searching the attacker's house and questioning two people thought to be close to Abballa. Islamic state has claimed responsibility for the attack.>>
> France is confronted by an extremely high terrorist threat, everyone here remembers what happen in 2015 in January, then in November.
This latest attack a stark reminder of that threat especially as the country hosts the Euro 2016 football tournament.
