>> A Frenchman detained on the Polish Ukrainian border in May was planning a string of attacks in France to coincide with the 2016 Euro soccer tournament, according to Ukraine state security service. I'm Reuters' correspondent Alessandra Prentice in Kiev. When police detained the man at the border they say his car was filled with an arsenal of weapons he had bought in Ukraine.
Ukraine state security service said the man was planning up to 15 attacks in France to coincide with the Euro soccer tournament. They said he spoke negatively about the French government, the spread of Islam, globalization, and mass immigration. They said he planned to target Jewish and Muslim places of worship and administrative buildings.
The French Foreign Ministry has confirmed that a French citizen was detained in Ukraine and say they are in contact with Ukrainian authorities, but have given no further details. A police source in France told Reuters that the police raid of the suspect's home had revealed a t-shirt with the insignia of an ultra nationalist group, as well as the ingredients for homemade explosives.
