>> An armed and masked man has been shot dead after opening fire in a German cinema complex, sparking a major terror alert. German elite forces storming the building where the man was said to have barricaded himself in with hostages. Police officials reporting no one else had been hurt despite claims from Bild newspaper of teargas injuries.
The gunman is said to have entered the cinema wearing an ammunition belt in West German town, Viernheim. His motives remain unclear, or whether it was a botched robbery. But security forces are saying, any links to terrorism seem unlikely.
