>> Forget super foods and face creams, Emma Morano has the real secret to a lengthy life. At 117, she's the oldest woman in the world, and it's her birthday. Today she's eating cake, a rare addition to the very simple diet that's kept her going since 1899.>>
>> Her eating habits were surprising from the start. When I first knew her, she ate three eggs a day, two raw and one fried. Today, she slowed down a bit, she only eats two a day, three may be a bit too heavy. Ever since I've known her, she ate very few vegetable, very little fruit.
The main feature of her diet is that she always eats the same thing every day, every week, of every month, of every year.>> Emma is the last known living person born in the 1800s. Her life spans three centuries, two world wars, and over 90 Italian governments. I used to sing.
I had a beautiful voice. It's been long, but her life has not been easy. Her first fiance died in World War I. She was then forced into an unhappy marriage with an abusive husband she didn't love. Their only son died at just six months old. And a year after that she walked away from the relationship.
>> My life has not been very good. I worked until I was 65 years old. Then that was that. Now, living by herself in a small town in northern Italy called Verbania, Emma says, these are happier times. Her advice for longevity, don't underestimate the power of raw eggs or being single.
