>> What it is about is->> It's only days ago that South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley was floated as the possible pick for Secretary of State in the Trump administration. But now Haley has accepted the post of UN Ambassador. The two term governor has won acclaim for her steadfast handling of major crises in her state, including the shooting of nine Black churchgoers at Mother Emmanuel Church in 2015, the subsequent controversy surrounding the state capital's Confederate flag, as well as Hurricane Matthew.
In the Republican primary, the 44-year old Haley endorsed Marco Rubio, and then Ted Cruz and was often in outspoken critic about incoming President, openly clashing with him over his proposed Muslim ban and urging compassion for the immigrants.>> No one who was willing to work hard, abide by our laws and love our traditions should ever feel unwelcome in this country.
>> But she does seem to align with the President elect on climate change as she's condemned carbon emission regulations. While Haley, the daughter of Indian immigrants lacks any real international experience, she has often called for civility and conversation in the political process which is in the least the sign of a diplomat in the making.
The ambassador to the UN is responsible for representing America's interest globally. The mission statement of the current UN Ambassador Samantha Power is to, quote, promote and defend universal values, and address pressing global peace, security, and prosperity.
