>> Nico Rosberg has stunned the Formula One world with a shock decision to retire. The announcement comes just days after the sportsman won his first World Championship with Mercedes, beating teammate Lewis Hamilton. In a statement on his Facebook page, the 31 year old wrote, I have climbed my mountain, I am on the peak, so this feels right.

Rosberg won nine of this season's 21 Grand Prix, beating three-time champion Hamilton by five points. Reuters Formula One correspondent Alan Baldwin says the time was right for Rosberg to go.>> I think he knew that this year was his big chance. It was his one chance probably and he won it.

I think next season he knew it was gonna be really tough. He's got a young family. His daughter was born last year. He's very much a family man and I think that why not go out on the top? He's the first champion since Alain Prost in 1993 to retire while champion.
