>> Joe Jackson, the patriarch of one of America's most successful musical families, has died at the age of 89. Jackson, who was the father of Michael and Janet Jackson, and their sibling group, The Jackson Five, had been stricken with cancer. Jackson launched his children's musical dynasty but was also alleged to have abused them both verbally and physically.

Their relationship was marred by legal battles, money disputes, and jealousies. He called them the Jackson Five, and with Michael as the talented lead-singer they would become one of the world's top acts. But it came at a price, as the group's manager, Jackson put his sons through long, regimented rehearsals. Michael, who died in 2009 of a drug overdose once said he was so afraid of his father he would sometimes vomit when he saw him.
