>> Heavy snow fall Monday out powered the number of heavy hitters starting to gather for the annual world economical forum in Switzerland. The host city of Davos shut down with the travel to and from the near by airport snarled after a week of snow that's triggered the regions highest avalanche alert.
For the global elite who did make it in, they may be forgiven for thinking, they've stumbled on to the set of a once popular TV show, where Donald Trump was the star. Reuters breaking news editor Rob Cox.>> This years Davos is really like the geopolitical global apprentice if you think about it.
You have 60 world leaders, thousands of business leaders. And you have a few of them some of the real key note addresses including Prime Minister Narendra Modi from India and Emmanuel Macron from France. All of whom are going to tout various benefits from investing in their countries. And then you have at the end of it a little bit like a finale for the Apprentice, right?
On Friday, at 2:00 PM you have Donald Trump, he's sort of like the end of the whole thing. And he's gonna talk about America First.>> I'm Conway Gittons, the Congress Center is where most of the action will take place. Trump's threat to slap broad restrictions on steel and aluminum imports, which is primarily aimed at China but could also have some blowback on the European Union.
This corporate tax cut, which could encourage other countries to do the same, nor to hold onto business. And his thrashing of the Iran nuclear talks, and his pulling out of the Paris Climate Accord, are all policies which are likely to dominate the discussion all week long. But the first visit by sitting US president to the world economic forum in more than 20 years is now in doubt as Trump deals with a government shut down at home.
Even if he does come his largely antiglobalist stance is out of place among these champions of global cooperation, especially during the first synchronized global economic upturn since the financial crisis.>> Donald Trump is gonna have a hard time convincing people that America First is the way to go, when his own government is shut down.
So it's gonna be very difficult for him to say I've got the answer, I've got the formula, follow me this is the way to go. So I think he is moral and really operational influence is gonna be quite limited here at Davos.>> The official welcome takes place Monday but the real discussions, start Tuesday.
