least 17 people drowned including children.>> There was some heavy wind and it was having problems through the wind.>> Emergency crews raced to the lake, a popular tourist destination after thunderstorms rolled through the area, Thursday evening, with winds reaching over 70 miles an hour.
Officials say, there were two duck boats on the lake when the storm's hit. The first one made it out, the second did not. It was carrying 31 people. Life jackets were on the boat but it's unclear if people were wearing them. Duck boats are used for sightseeing tours around the world, but they've been involved in a number of fatal accidents in the past two decades.
Ride The Ducks International, the company that builds the amphibious boats that can go on land and in the water, agreed to pay a $1 million fine in 2016, after one of its vehicles collided with the bus in Seattle. Five international students died in that crash. The company also admitted to failing to comply with US rules on manufacturing vehicles.
