>> The man accused of killing a woman after he plowed his car into a group of people protesting against the White Nationalist rally in Virginia, has pleaded not guilty in his first court appearance. 21-year-old James Alex Fields appeared before a judge in Charlottesville, Virginia, charged with federal hate crimes.
He could face the death penalty if he's convicted.>>
] My God.>> Fields allegedly drove his car into a crowd of protestors in Charlottesville last August, killing 32-year-old, Heather Higher and injuring dozens of others. He also faces separate state murder charges in Virginia. Hundreds of people had descended on the small college town to protest the removal of a Confederate statue in the so-called Unite the Right rally.
Counter-protestors turned out to demonstrate against the rally, and clashes broke out. President Trump was heavily criticized when he said afterwards that quote many sides were to blame for the violence, and did not specifically denounce the far Right. According to the indictment, Fields regularly tauted racist ideologies on his social media accounts, including expressing support for Adolf Hitler and the Holocaust.
