UK police say the pair had handled a contaminated item. It's the same substance used in the attempted murder of former Russians double agent Sergey Skripal and his daughter in March. The new case is in Amesbury very close to Salisbury where the Skripals were attacked. And the couple are being treated in the same hospital, both in a critical condition.

>> I know that many of you will question whether this incident is linked to that one.>> Police say the man and woman, thought to be in their mid 40s, often visited the area where the Skripal incident took place and that this was probably an after effect.>> I don't have any intelligence or evidence that they were targeted in any way.

She had been in a coma for 20 days and the long term effects of the Novachok still aren't known. This time round, police say that when the power first found in this house on Saturday, it was assumed that they were suffering from a bad reaction to illegal drugs.

Police didn't publicly raise the threat level until two days later. They have now sealed off areas the pair may have visited, trying to isolate where and how they were exposed. The Kremlin denies making any use of Novichok in the UK.
