re than 200 protestors rallied in Brooklyn on Thursday over the shooting of an unarmed black man by police the day before. Officers shot 34 year old Saheel Vassell after he pointed a metal pipe at them that they believed was a gun. I just want to say I want justice for Saheed.
>> Many held signs reading Justice for Saheed and Black Lives Matter. Deep mistrust of police was running high at the rally.>> The police, whether it's NYPD, the LAPD, police in, precincts around the country are murdering black men, black people, people of color.>> The New York State Attorney General's Office said that they will investigate the shooting.
Police say Vassell was killed by officers responding to reports of a man aiming a gun at pedestrians. Security camera footage released by the NYPD showed Vassell taking a two handed stance and pointing the object at police, prompting four policemen to fire ten shots. He later died in the hospital.
Local media reported that Vassell suffered from mental illness. The death of Vassell is the latest in the series of fatal shootings by police of unarmed black men in the country. Last month Stefan Clark was fatally shot by police in Sacramento California, resulting in more than two weeks of protests.
