>> President elect, Donald Trump, meeting up Saturday with one of his sharpest critics, Mitt Romney, in a weekend of transition meetings at his golf club in Bedminster, Jew Jersey.>> Was it a productive meeting?>> It went great.>> Sources say Romney, who in a speech earlier this year called Trump a phony and a fraud, is under consideration for the post of Secretary of State.
>> I appreciate the chance to speak with the President elect, and look forward to the coming administration.>> Romney had urged Republicans to vote for anyone but the New York real estate magnet while the party was picking its presidential nominee, slamming Trump's personal qualities, quote, the bullying, the greed, the showing off, the misogyny, the absurd third grade theatrics.
>> If we Republicans choose Donald Trump as our nominee, the prospects for a safe and prosperous future are greatly diminished.>> Trump, in turn, used harsh rhetoric at times during his campaign to dismiss Romney as a failure, who blew a chance in 2012 to defeat Democratic President, Barrack Obama.
Some strategists say if Romney is appointed to Trump's cabinet, he could serve as a moderating influence to Trump's inner circle of hardliners, such as Chief Strategist Steven Bannon. Trump already has a lengthy list of potential candidates for the post of top US diplomat, including South Carolina Governor, Nikki Haley, who he met Thursday, and former New York Mayor, Rudy Giuliani, who Trump is scheduled to meet Sunday.
>> I was here today to work on the transition team.
