>> Patriotic Russian hackers may have staged cyber attacks in countries that have strained relations with Moscow. Russian president Vladimir Putin said on Thursday. But the Kremlin wasn't involved. Putin speaks Speaking to journalists in St Petersburg, likened hackers to free spirited artists. And said cyber attacks could be made to look like they came from Russia when they didn't.
Moscow's attitude toward cyber-crime is under scrutiny. US intelligence officials say Russian hackers tried to help Republican Candidate Donald Trump win the White House, a claim Trump and Russia have both flatly denied. Putin made the comments answering a question about whether Moscow could try to interfere in this year's German election.
He said he was personally convinced hackers can't materially alter election campaigns in Europe or the United States anyway.
