The US now joins the only two other nonparticipants on earth, Nicaragua and Syria.>> It's a hoax.>> Trump and his supporters often describe climate change as a hoax devised to weaken American industry. But many top corporate executives urged the president to stay in the agreement, at least to exert influence in climate talks.
Exiting the deal will deepen a rift with the US allies as reports surfaced in recent days that Trump would pull out, world leaders stepped up to reaffirm their commitment to the agreement. The pact was the first legally binding global deal to fight climate change. US supporters of the pact say any pull out by Trump would represent an abdication of American leadership.
And would show that the United States can not be trusted to follow through on international commitments. Scientist have said that withdraw could speed up the effects of global climate change, leading to heat waves, floods, droughts and more frequent violent storms. Last year was the warmest since records began in the nineteenth century.
Some states like California, Washington, and New York have vowed to continue to reduce greenhouse gas emissions regardless.
