>> Jose Mourinho accused of tax fraud by Spanish prosecutors. Two counts dating back to when the current Manchester United boss was coaching Spanish side Real Madrid. They say the Portuguese manager owes Spanish tax authorities 3.3 million euros, around $3.7 million. Reuters Adam Reed explains how things could play out.
Jose Mourinho has been accused of defrauding the Spanish authority, using his image rights for illicit use and not declaring it, for a period when he was Real Madrid's manager. The amount of money that's being talked about for Mourinho isn't anything that's gonna effect him in the long term.
He's got the money, he's got plenty of money. The fact is that it doesn't look good when you've been accused of such things in the past. It's may not be seen as a huge thing in the football world, because it's not necessarily linked to any football activity. But it's definitely something that might tarnish an image.
>> Prosecutors say Mourinho has already paid a penalty of 1.15 million euros for a claim relating to his Spanish taxes in 2014. But tax authorities found some of the information presented back then was wrong. These new accusations are just the latest in an ever increasing list of potential black marks against football stars in Spain.
>> We've seen that Christiano Ronaldo in the past week has been, his reputation has been called into question. And the thing that joins both of them together, apart from being Portuguese, they've got the same agent as well, George Mendez. So it remains to be seen what part they all knew about what they were doing.
But as we seen with Lionel Messi in the past with the charges that were pulled against him, no one is really above the law when it comes to being found guilty of these offenses.>> Renaldo will be up in court in Madrid on the 31st of July. Accused of hiding income from tax authorities between 2011 and 2014.
No response yet from Real Madrid on either case, nor from the sports agency that represents both men.
