>> US Special Forces joining the battle to crush Islamic State militants in Southern Philippines. Officials on Saturday confirming that the US was providing technical assistance to end the siege of Marawi City where hundreds of ISIS allied militants are believed to be holed up. But no US boots are on the ground.
>> No, no, they're not fighting. They're just providing technical support.>> The joint effort is significant because President Rodrigo Duterte, who came to power a year ago has taken a hostile stance toward Washington and has vowed to eject US military trainers and advisers from his country. So far, 58 Philippine security forces, as well as 20 civilians and more than 100 rebel fighters have been killed as fierce fighting in Marawi rages on.
The Philippines military is aiming to end the siege which is in its third week by Monday, the country's independence day.
