w York City's annual Gay Pride Parade took a political tone on Sunday with marchers carrying signs reading, We Resist, and Donald Trump Queer Basher. Tens of thousands carried rainbow flags and danced in the streets. They also paid special tribute to last years shooting at Orlando Pulse gay nightclub in which a gunman killed 49 people.

One of the grand marshals this year is Brooke Guinan, a transgender woman, who works as a New York City firefighter.>> Go out there and achieve your dreams, and search for those things that make you happy. And that you have those same rights as everyone else does.

>> While June is the annual pride month celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender equality, many advocates say more work needs to be done to fight various forms of oppression, both locally and globally. The march route ended near the Stonewall Inn to commemorate the riots that broke out there in 1969 after police raided the gay bar, in an event seen as a turning point in the gay rights movement.
