The country discussed accusations that he had died because of torture and beating during his captivity as groundless.

The North's Foreign Ministry spokesman saying that Warmbier was released quote on humanitarian grounds but, he was quote clearly a criminal. The exact cause of Warmbier's death remains unclear even to American doctors. And his family asked the Hamilton County coroner not to perform an autopsy.
