>> Me too, those two words repeated millions of times on social media by women sharing their stories of sexual harassment and abuse. The movement sparked by sexual abuse allegations against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein has picked up momentum across industries and bold faced names. Reuters reporter Melissa Fares spent the past week talking to women about their stores.
>> I spoke with a woman name Amanda Krohn, she's a 29 year old stay at home mother in Pennsylvania and she's been with her husband, Timothy, for eight years. She was sexually assaulted nine years ago and never had told her husband about her sexual assault experience before. But the #MeToo movement, when she saw all of her friends and some family members posting the status #MeToo, she was encouraged to tell her husband for the first time.
>> Activist Tryana Burk first created the #MeToo campaign a decade ago. And it re-emerged when actress Alyssa Milano tweeted, if you've been sexually harassed or assaulted, write me too as a reply to this twit. And as more people shared, others listened. For Shirley Clark, #MeToo never made it to her social media accounts.
But seeing a movement go viral caused the 23 year old to tell her mother about her experience. Only to find out her mother had been in the same exact position before.>> A recent Reuters poll showed that of the nearly 2,000 people surveyed more than half have experienced an unwanted verbal or physical sexual advance.
Of those people, 11% said that they personally posted a #MeToo status to one of their social media platforms, and 14% had engaged with some post in some way.>> For now, #MeToo has become the rare hashtag that may turn into a movement.
