>> Authorities on Monday said a massacre at a small town Texas church that left 26 dead may be linked to a domestic dispute.>> One thing everybody wants to know is, why did this happen? It's a senseless crime, but we can tell you that there was a domestic situation going on within this family.
The suspect's mother-in-law attended this church. We know that she had received threatening texts from him.>> The official confirmed the gunman was 26-year-old Devin Patrick Kelley. The Wilson County sheriff said services were underway when Kelley entered the church clad in black tactical gear and armed with an assault rifle.
He walked to the front firing at congregants along the way. An armed citizen, who the sheriff called a hero, exchanged fire with Kelley outside the church. Kelley fled in his vehicle and was later found dead.>> The cause and manner of the death in this with the shooter will be determined by a pathologist during the autopsy.
However, investigators found evidence at the scene that indicates the subject may have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.>> Kelley previously served with an Air Force logistics unit. He was court-martialed in 2012 on charges of assaulting his wife and child. He was sentenced to 12 months confinement and received a bad conduct discharge in 2014.
The history of domestic abuse and the military discharge raising questions as to why he was able to purchase the assault rifle and two handguns police said he carried.>> In general, if an individual has a dishonorable discharge from the military, they would be prohibited from possessing or purchasing firearms.

I mean, we could go into it, but it's a little bit soon to go into it.>> Kelley's victims ranged in age from 18 months to 77 years old.
Of the 20 others wounded, 10 remain in critical condition.
