nnnnn one of the most popular reality shows in television history will have its last broadcast in two thousand sixteen after fifteen seasons on the air fox announcing monday the cancellation of american idol the show which transformed reality television with its view of voting and start judging led by the acerbic simon towel launched the careers of pop stars jennifer hudson kelly clarkson and carrie underwood waters entertainment reporter lisa rich why it was one of the first big reality shows , on a whole , it once got more than thirty million viewers regularly which is a huge audience these days when there are so many ways to watch a video online and elsewhere recent years its audience has dwindled all the way down to eleven million this season but that doesn't mean t. v. viewers are tired of the reality genre as a whole i think people are growing tired of competition shows in particular there's there's been so many of them when i started it was a real novelty , and i you know families watched it together and now there are just so many new options that i'm , it's not a bigot draws it used to be house right seacrest the only remaining original cast member will be back for the final season along with judges jennifer lopez keith urban and harry connick junior
