but just just took to the streets of cleveland saturday night after a police officer who shot and killed an unarmed black couple in two thousand twelve was acquitted of voluntary manslaughter cops patrolled the streets in riot gear while the protest began peacefully some people thought crossed the line later in the day according to police chief calvin williams something bystanders briefly blocking a major highway disrupting business , shopping , seventy one protesters were arrested , demonstrations were the latest in a national outcry over law enforcement's use of lethal force , the deaths of unarmed black men in ferguson missouri new york and baltimore , on saturday a judge ruled that a thirty one year old white officer michael brillo acted reasonably and firing at melissa williams and timothy russell thinking that they were shooting at him and other officers , the police standoff took place after a high speed chase that started when russell's car backfired causing officers to think the pair had a gun , really our former marine fired forty nine times while standing on the hood of their car is it was surrounded by cops , officer shot a hundred thirty seven bullets striking russell and williams two dozen times each , no weapon was found in the car or along the route u. s. justice department said on saturday at civil rights division the u. s. attorney's office and the f. b. i. reviewing testimony in evidence in the state trial and will determine if at all action will be taken
