a major victory for royal dutch shell the obama administration monday uprooting the oil giant's plan to resume drilling in the arctic ocean for the first time since twenty twelve , looters timothy gardner is covering the story , this step was really that big thing that shells been looking for still has to get a few minor permits from the %HESITATION from the federal government and the state of alaska , but %HESITATION this is the big one and show looks like it will start exploring again this summer , the arctic is estimated to hold about a fifth of the world's undiscovered oil and natural gas but it could take decades to tap those reserves , shell hasn't had operations in the region for three years when accidents involving two of its big scrap national attention , neither incident resulted in any environmental damage , but eco conscious groups raised concerns that the region is particularly vulnerable , environmentalists are very concerned they look back five years ago to the b. p. oil spill in the gulf of mexico , uh which released and norma's amounts of crude oil into the ocean , they say %HESITATION if an accident of that magnitude happened up in the arctic , it could be a disaster because the oil would basically freeze and it will be very hard to remove from the environment , one of those big is the same one that had problems in twenty twelve
