nnnnn no deal yet between cuba and the united states the latest round of talks spilling into friday but an agreement to restore diplomatic ties between two former enemies so far is proving elusive negotiator say talks are heading in the right direction lead negotiator roberta jacobson , we have made significant progress in the last five months and are much closer to reestablishing relations and re opening embassies downtrodden is reuters chief correspondent in cuba and has been following the talks in washington they're still a degree of mistrust on both sides , and , for that reason they're going slow neither country is in too much of a hurry hurry right now they want to get it right so yes it's historic and momentous , it's just going to take a little longer , what cuba is waiting for is to formally come off the list of state sponsors of terrorism , president obama announced on april fourteenth that cuba would be removed from that list was carries with it some sanctions , so that takes forty five days to to become official , on may twenty ninth cuba will be off that list and we expected at that time were soon thereafter we could have an announcement , diplomatic relations will be re established and while the two countries what the negotiating table one piece of good news arrived from stone gate bank of florida stone gate said this week that it agreed to open an account for cuba in the united states
