>> Special Counsel Robert Muller's team has turned down a proposal for President Trump to submit written answers to questions in the Russia probe. It's the latest revelation from Trump's new lawyer, former New York Mayor, Rudy Giuliani, who talked to CBS News Monday night. Reuters Legal Affairs reporter, Jan Wolfe.
>> It's not surprising that the President's lawyers would have asked for a written exchange with Bob Mueller, that makes it much easier to be thoughtful in their responses and craft them how they wish it's also not surprising though that Bob Mueller would reject this. He really wants to get inside the President's head and understand his intent for certain actions, like the comments he made to James Comey about an ongoing investigation, and it's much harder to do that in writing where responses are being screened by lawyers.
>> Mueller's investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential campaign, Trump's lawyers are reportedly concerned an in-person interview could put the President in legal jeopardy. Giuliani told CBS he's pushing for certain parameters, like a time limit for the interview and for some issues to be deemed out of bounds.
>> The parties still seem pretty far apart, there is a very high likelihood an interview could not happen but the final chapter has not been written on this yet. There are reasons for Trump to sit down for an interview, for one thing, that would make him seem transparent refusing to do an interview would fuel some criticism of the President that he has not been open with the public.
>> Giuliani also clarified his earlier statement, that Trump could ignore a subpoena, saying instead his legal team would resist one to leverage for better terms for an interview and then fight it in court if necessary. If the interview does happen, Giuliani says he wants it to take place after the planned summit with North Korea, so it won't distract Trump from his talks with Kim Jong-un.
