>> The UK's foreign secretary has urged President Donald Trump not to throw the baby out with the bath water by ending the Iran nuclear deal. Boris Johnson even appearing on a show Trump is known to watch, Fox and Friends, in a bid to grab his ear. Johnson won't get a chance to meet the US president in person on this two day trip to Washington, though he has spoken with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
And the message he's brought is that the Iran deal should be fixed rather than scrapped altogether.>> We think we can fix all that. Working with our European friends, we think we can be tougher on Iran, but not throw away the heart of the deal, which is all about stopping them getting a nuclear weapon.
>> But Johnson also warned that without the accord, Iran could develop a nuclear weapon and start an arms race among countries in the region. Trump has given his European allies until May the 12th to rectify what he calls flaws in Tehran's 2015 deal, and says he will withdraw from the pact and refuse to extend US sanctions relief for Iran unless it is fixed.
French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have also lobbied Trump not to withdraw from the deal. And on Monday, France's foreign minister said the three countries will stick to the accord, irrespective of what Trump decides.
