>> First Lady Melania Trump is in hospital and is expected to remain there for at least a week. Her office on Monday said Ms. Trump underwent an embolization procedure at Walter Reed Military Medical Center to treat a kidney condition. Her spokesperson said the procedure was successful and without complications.
Adding, quote, the First Lady looks toward a full recovery so she can work on behalf of children everywhere. CNN reports Melania Trump is the first First Lady to undergo a serious medical procedure while living in the White House since Nancy Reagan had a mastectomy in October 1987. Ms. Trump had kept a low profile at the beginning of the Trump administration and did not move to the White House until her son, Baron, finished the 2017 school year.
But she recently began to assert more of a role, overseeing a state dinner honoring the visiting President of France in April.>> I feel strongly that, as adults, we can ensure the best at educating our children about the importance of a healthy and balanced life.>> Just last week she launched her first initiative as First Lady, a campaign called Be Best, aimed at improving children's wellness and online safety.
CNN said the President remained in the White House, while the First Lady underwent surgery in Maryland.
