]>> Streaming music service Spotify is dropping R Kelly from its playlist. The company on Thursday issued a statement saying, his music will still be available on the service, but Spotify will not actively promote it. The decision falls under the terms of Spotify's new hate content and hateful conduct public policy.
The multi-platinum recording artist has for years faced accusations of sexual misconduct, and even running an abusive sex cult. And last week, more women accused R Kelly of sexual abuse. R Kelly has vehemently denied the accusations, saying they are, quote, an attempt to distort my character, and to destroy my legacy.
He's never been convicted of a crime. A jury acquitted the R&B star of child pornography charges in 2008. But with the recent launch of the MuteRKelly movement, pressure is building to boycott the singer over his history of alleged misconduct. And Spotify has made a move, saying, we want our editorial decisions, what we choose to program, to reflect our values.
