>> Michigan State University will pay $500 million to settle the lawsuits brought by the hundreds of victims who say they were molested by former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar. Under the settlement, announced Wednesday by attorneys on both sides, the university will pay $425 million to the 332 victims currently represented and will set aside another $75 million to protect anyone who comes forward in the future.
But the settlement only covers accusations against Michigan State, where Nassar treated student athletes. Still underway are lawsuits against USA Gymnastics and the US Olympic Committee. The Nassar scandal reached the very top of the university, with the president resigning, while the dean who supervised Nassar was fired, and later charged for failing to protect students.
