>> Confrontation between Iran and Israel escalated sharply in Syria early Thursday morning. For the first time Iranian forces launched rockets on Israeli army outposts in the Golan Heights from Syria. Iranian result prompted a retaliation from Israel destroying dozens of Iranian military sites in Syria. It's one of the heaviest Israeli barrages in the country since the conflict began there 2011.
Syrian state media said the Israeli missile strikes hit a radar station, Syrian air defense positions and an ammunition dump. Israel said it's strikes on Syria focuses on Iranian capabilities and hardware in the country and claimed they inflicted long term damage on Iran's military in Syria. The Israeli military said Iran´s missile attack on the Golan Heights inflicted no casualties and said the damage was limited.
They also said the initial Irani attack was carried out by the Kurds force, an external arm of Iran´s revolutionary guards. Tensions between Israel and Iran have been on the rise in Syria, and the incidents over night highlighted the risk of a wider escalation between the two countries and the region.
Iran vowed retaliation after an Israel airstrike last month killed seven of its military personnel at a Syrian airbase. Israel sees Iran as its biggest threat and has targeted Iranian forces and their allies in Syria numerous times since the start of the Syrian Civil War.
