>> They have this witch hunt.>> President Trump on Thursday phoned into his favorite morning TV show, Fox and Friends, to air his grievances over everything from Hillary Clinton, CNN to the Justice Department. But a notable moment was when he said this about his lawyer, Michael Cohen.>> He represents me like with this crazy Stormy Daniels deal.
00:00:19
He represented me.>> This is the first time the President acknowledged publicly that Cohen did in fact represent him in the payment to Stormy Daniels to keep her quiet on what she said was an affair she had with Trump in 2006. Trump has denied the affair, or knowing anything about the payment.
00:00:35
>> Did you know about the $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels?>> No.>> On Thursday a federal judge ruled that a court-appointed independent official called a special master should be the first to examine documents seized by FBI agents from Cohen's office. Prosecutors in that case jumped on Trump's early morning claim that Cohen barely represented him.
00:00:55
>> Well, as a percentage of my overall legal work a tiny, tiny little fraction.>> Riding that if that's the case there should be few instances that seized documents are privileged, though that's for the special master to decide, says Reuters legal correspondent Jan Wolf.>> Clients' communication with a lawyer are generally not allowed to be used against the client as a matter of policy in the US.
00:01:15
But there's exceptions like if communications are really about business and not legal issues, or if communications with lawyer meant to further a crime, then those can be used against a criminal defendant. The special master, he will make that determination.>> Outside the courthouse, Thursday, Daniel's lawyer, Michael Avenatti, said he very much enjoyed the president's TV appearance.
00:01:36
>> I think the president should appear on Fox and Friends every morning. That's what I think, I thought it was exceptional for our case and I thought it was disastrous for him.>> What Trump has said or tweeted has often come back to haunt him, a mistake his friend/lawyer Michael Cohen won't be making.

On Wednesday Cohen said in a filing in Los Angeles Federal Court that he would assert his fifth amendment right against self incrimination in connection with the civil lawsuit filed by Daniels.
