>> Packing up his explosives. Planning to attack the Euro 2016 Tournament in France. This man, a French citizen, detained by Ukrainian officials in May. He was not known to police or intelligence services. Arrested on the border with Poland, alongside an arsenal of weapons and explosives, rocket launchers, and Kalashnikov assault rifles found in his vehicle.
It's thought 15 attacks were being planned to coincide with the football championship.>>
> December 2015, we learned that a French citizen arrived in Ukraine claiming to be providing volunteer aid. He started to establish contacts with members of the armed forces in the east of our country and was promising to deliver volunteer aid equipment and other things.
But during the process of communications, he started indicating his interest in purchasing weapons, explosives, and other means of destruction.>> Authorities say the man had made contact with armed groups in Ukraine, and his intended targets included Jewish and Muslim places of worship, buildings linked with the tournament, and French administrative buildings.
But French police aren't convinced according to an anonymous source. When a man's house was searched in the Mers region of France, Police found nothing incriminating. The arrest comes as security officials across Europe are on high alert. Following Islamist militant attacks in Paris and Brussels recently and the start of the UA 2016 Tournament on Friday.
