>> 31 athletes from 6 different sports could be banned from this years Olympic games. The announcement coming from the Olympic committee itself after 454 doping samples were retested in an effort to crack down on cheats. The IOC saying it will start scrutinizing tests made in previous Olympic games.
If tested positive for banned substances, the same athletes could face a ban from Rio. The first samples were taken from the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing. One IOC official told Reuters no names would be made public at this stage, and not before warning the athletes involved. The tests are a coordinated effort between the Olympic Committee and the World Anti-Doping Agency.
The next batch of tests will be aimed at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi.
