>> Vanessa Trump, the wife of Donald Trump Junior, was taken to a hospital on Monday after opening a suspicious envelope that contained a white powder. NYPD officials said the unidentified powder was later determined to be non-hazardous after Vanessa Trump and two other people, including her mother, were hospitalized.
Vanessa Trump complained of nausea following exposure to the white powder though her mother had not complained of any symptoms. The apartment building where the incident occurred is in Manhattan's expensive Sutton Place neighborhood. Local news outlets reported the apartment is the home of Vanessa Trump's mother. But an NYPD spokesman said the piece of mail was addressed to Donald Trump Junior.
US authorities have been on alert for mail with white powder in it since 2001 when envelopes laced with anthrax were sent to media outlets and US lawmakers, killing five people. In 2016, white powder which also proved to be harmless, was sent to the home of Donald Trump Junior's brother, Eric.
The Secret Service, which is charged with protecting Trump's family members, has joined the investigation into Monday's incident.
