>> Google IO, the tech giant's annual developer conference this week streamed live around the world to millions of developers and guess where it's getting its biggest audience. Our largest developer audience on the live Stream is from China today with over 1 million people tuning in live from China.
So welcome to those users as well. I'm Reuters' Jane Lanhee Lee at the Google Developers Conference in Silicon Valley. Google, for the most is blocked in China, but they're still quite a few number of developers developing and selling apps on Google Play. So why is that?>> China's been a touchy topic since Google clash with Beijing in 2010 over censorship issues.
I met up with some Chinese Google developers at the conference. Song raise weather app, amber weather app has 40 million installs overseas through Google Play in just a year.>>
and organizes the Google developers group in Beijing estimates about 10% of developers in China make apps for markets outside the country. And the Google Play success stories are bringing more into the fold.
] says his company's app Solo Launcher has been installed 400 million times, all outside of China through Google Play. He says that would be an impossible feat in China's chaotic Internet market where deep pocket and relationships determine success. To help developers, Google last year launched a Google developers YouTube channel in Chinese.
And he thinks if Google Play returned to China it could help clean up the market chaos. If that should ever happen, at least Google will have an army of developers already well versed in the Google code.
